The worst of it may be over for some of us, but the winter brings new challenges for the ones who don’t have the privileges we do, making their situation even worse than before.
Since the first case of COVID-19 reported in November of last year, things have rapidly gotten worse for humanity, and continue to do so for millions in this country. The weather makes them more prone to several infections, including the deadly Covid-19. So, we decided to help the people on the streets, who are at a higher risk of being infected, and didn’t have the privilege of being able to sit at home under blankets and in warm clothes, couldn’t afford essential items such as masks or sanitary pads, footwear, sanitizers, and warm clothes, due to lack of information regarding the coronavirus or simply because they could not afford them. However, no monetary donations towards the drive or people were accepted.
We kept the current situation in mind, and made sure to sanitize everything we handed out in our distribution drive, which happened on the 10th of November.
Without a vaccine or a cure currently available, prevention by precaution is the only way to ensure safety from COVID-19. The risk of infection is halved for every 6 feet of distance between two individuals, and wearing a mask can reduce it to as low as 1.5% all the way from 80% for unmasked people.
This was all made possible thanks to contributors and volunteers — Team Abhilasha’s first distribution drive was a success!
